The Department of Art at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position in Ceramics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2017. Required qualifications: MFA in ceramics or equivalent; demonstrated excellence in teaching; a commitment to creative research in the field of ceramics; strong collaborative leadership skills; and a desire to build and maintain an outstanding ceramics program.
The successful candidate will demonstrate: knowledge of current and emerging trends in ceramic art, awareness of contemporary issues in art, a vision of the role of ceramics in an undergraduate art curriculum, the ability to teach a broad range of ceramic processes at all levels, and documentation of innovative pedagogy in ceramics. Three years university teaching experience beyond the graduate assistant level preferred.
Position responsibilities include: teaching three courses each semester in Ceramics and related areas such as foundations, general education and studio Art seminars; Co-coordinating the Ceramics studio in collaboration with other faculty; advising students; maintaining an active program of scholarship/ creative research; and participating in service activities. Salary commensurate with experience.
