Appalachian State University’s Department of Communication seeks an Assistant Professor in Electronic Media/Broadcasting beginning August 2018. A terminal degree in mass communication, communication, or related field is required for tenure-track appointment. 

Essential functions of the position include: teaching undergraduate courses in broadcasting and electronic media, which may include TV studio production, electronic media management, broadcast performance, media sales, or other courses within the curriculum based on departmental needs and individual expertise; maintaining a high level of scholarly and/or creative activity; advising students; participation in departmental governance; and academic service. 

Preferred qualifications include: professional experience in television, electronic media, or related fields; teaching experience with college-level students; a record of field-related creative and/or scholarly accomplishments; and the ability to integrate curriculum with AppTV, the department’s HD TV channel.

Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina System and is located in Boone, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. University enrollment is approximately 18,000 students.

The award-winning Electronic Media/Broadcasting program is part of the Department of Communication and is housed in the new George G. Beasley Media Complex.  It is home to AppTV, the department’s HD television channel; two state-of-the-art HD TV studios; top college radio station WASU 90.5 FM; and the Kellar Radio Talent Institute, all which are designed, along with the curriculum, to prepare students for careers in broadcasting and/or electronic media. The Department of Communication includes five majors:  Electronic Media/Broadcasting, Advertising, Communication Studies, Journalism, and Public Relations.
