POSITION: Assistant Professor in the Sustainable Technology program within the Department of Sustainable Technology & the Built Environment (STBE), beginning August 15, 2018. This is a tenure-track position with competitive salary and benefits.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and/or graduate level courses related to sustainability and renewable energy technology in the Sustainable Technology program and expand the professional contacts of the program in the renewable energy industry. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, participating in program and departmental service work, advising students, and maintaining and enhancing student/research labs.
QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctorate, or a master’s degree with professional licensure, in a related field of technology, science or engineering is required. Preference will be given to candidates with: (1) experience in the design, installation, commissioning, and performance testing of photovoltaic renewable energy systems; (2) relevant teaching experience; and (3) an active research agenda demonstrated by journal publications and/or external research funding.
THE DEPARTMENT: STBE houses three academic programs: the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sustainable Technology; the BS in Building Science, with three concentrations; and the Master of Science in Technology, with four concentrations. The Department includes 23 full-time faculty serving approximately 600 undergraduate students and 40 graduate students. A recent restructuring led to the creation of STBE driven by the University’s Strategic Plan to facilitate transformative growth within our academic programs, which have played an integral role in building the University’s sustainability agenda. Faculty from these three programs have brought in over $8 million in external funding since 2007. Their work exemplifies a commitment to applied research, with specific emphases on renewable energy and on sustainable design and construction of healthy, high-performance buildings. Students in these programs have achieved notable successes in national and international competitions such as the Formula Sun Grand Prix and American Solar Challenge, the USDOE Race to Zero and Solar Decathlon, Solar Decathlon Europe, and the USEPA P3, among others.
