The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures of Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of TESL/Applied Linguistics. The position will start in August 2018.

The ideal candidate must have:
· Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics or a related field by August, 2018
· Native or near-native proficiency in English and in any of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish
· 2 or more years of college-level language teaching experience.

The position carries broad responsibilities in teaching, scholarship and service, including student advising. The standard teaching load is six courses per year and a commitment to an active research agenda is expected. Candidates should be interested in further developing the undergraduate program in TESL/Applied Linguistics and in developing a graduate certificate in TESL. Teaching duties in this position will include courses in TESL/Applied Linguistics and in another language taught in the department, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The following would strengthen the application:
· licensure or willingness to seek licensure in TESL
· experience in translation/interpretation

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures has twenty tenure-track faculty members and twenty lecturers/adjunct instructors. The department offers an M.A. in Romance Languages; undergraduate majors in East Asian Languages and Cultures, French and Francophone Studies, German, and Spanish; nine undergraduate minors (Arabic, Chinese, East Asian Studies, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, TESL/Applied Linguistics); and two years of instruction in Portuguese.
