Hayes School of Music

The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month position to begin in August 2018. 

POSITION:  Tenor and Opera.  Applied voice teacher, performer, and director of Opera Workshop (usually one full production, one scenes program annually).  Must maintain teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service activities, and must be committed to student recruitment and maintaining communication between the Hayes School of Music and high school choral directors and voice teachers throughout the state and region.  Additional teaching and non-teaching duties will be assigned as needed by the voice area and the Hayes School of Music.  Performance with the faculty vocal ensemble APPropos! is likely. 

RANK AND SALARY:  Instructor or Assistant Professor; salary commensurate with experience and educational preparation. 

REQUIREMENTS:  Evidence of experience in opera direction and/or production, evidence of accomplishment as a professional performer and university-level teacher, and completed master’s degree required.  Doctorate completed by August 15, 2018 required for appointment to tenure track.  Other applicants will be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
