The Department of Nursing in the Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS), Appalachian State University invites applications for one full time, non-tenure-track, nine-month or twelve-month option, position in nursing available August 1, 2018. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Nursing, the position requires teaching and service responsibilities. A master of science in nursing or doctor of nursing practice is required. Candidates who are enrolled in a MSN or DNP program are eligible to apply if all degree requirements will be completed by the date of appointment.
Required qualifications for the positions include licensure as a registered nurse in good standing, in North Carolina or a compact state, meeting the North Carolina Board of Nursing’s requirements for nurse educator, an earned MSN or DNP by the time of appointment and a commitment to excellence in teaching compatible with the BCHS mission. Special consideration will be given to individuals who have a minimum of one year full-time teaching in a nursing program, experience with online instruction, simulation lab experience, and clinical expertise in medical/surgical, obstetrics, pediatrics, community/mental health or critical care nursing. All invited candidates will be asked to give a formal presentation during the campus visit.
The Department of Nursing, http://www.nursing.appstate.edu has programs including a BSN, a RN to BSN, and a MSN program with a concentration in nursing education. The RN to BSN and MSN programs are taught in online formats. The BSN and RN to BSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Accreditation will be sought for the MSN program.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities may include teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, simulation lab or online in any of the programs. There are no on-line only teaching positions within the Department of Nursing. Teaching may include capstone projects or thesis committee participation. In addition, responsibilities include service on committees, advising students, assisting with program development, and participation in official activities of the Department, College, and University. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
