The Department of Biology at Appalachian State University (http://www.biology.appstate.edu) seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in the area of salamander ecology. We seek a teacher-scholar who will combine excellence in undergraduate and graduate (Master’s) teaching with an active research program. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and should have post-doctoral experience and/or post-Ph.D. teaching experience. Successful candidates are expected to teach courses in their specialty as well as in the general biology program.   

The successful candidate should have research experience on the effects of land use change and fire on salamander populations in forested ecosystems. Special consideration will be given to those researching dispersal ecology and to those with a record of experiential learning experiences. Experience in tropical ecosystems is also desirable. Teaching responsibilities may include two or more of the following: herpetology, comparative vertebrate zoology, mammalogy, and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise.
