The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University invites applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position to begin in August 2018.
POSITION: Assistant Professor of Composition and Theory. Responsibilities will include individual instruction in composition at both the undergraduate and graduate level and undergraduate classroom teaching within the theory/aural skills core. Other responsibilities will include teaching of orchestration and electronic music. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in the responsibilities of tenure-track faculty membership including scholarly and creative activity, curriculum development, student advisement, recruitment, and service activities.
REQUIREMENTS: Evidence of accomplishment as a composer and college/university-level teacher required. Doctorate must be completed at time of application. A minimum of two years teaching experience in the undergraduate theory/aural skills core and/or composition as the instructor of record. Evidence of scholarly and creative activity. The candidate is also required to demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate education and mentoring. Significant knowledge of and experience in current hardware and software used in contemporary composing is strongly desirable.
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor. Salary commensurate with experience and educational preparation.
