Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Fundamentals (EEODF)
As a supervisor at Appalachian State University, you play a critical role in creating and maintaining a safe, equitable, and inclusive work environment for our employees. Part of this role involves upholding Equal Employment Opportunity laws and our University’s commitment to inclusion. In order to ensure that you have the tools you need to fulfill this role, we will be implementing the Equal Employment Opportunity and Diversity Fundamentals (EEODF) training created by the NC Office of State Human Resources (OSHR). EEODF is a mandatory training for all managers and supervisors with North Carolina state agencies and UNC system institutions per G.S. 126-16.1. This training provides a thorough background in EEO law as well as thought-provoking situations to assess and improve your cultural competence in the workplace.
OSHR has recently updated the training to a blended format. We will begin offering the instructor-led sessions on campus in March so that supervisors are not required to travel off campus to participate. You are encouraged to complete the course within one year.
How do I complete EEODF training?
STEP ONE: Register for the EEODF curriculum. Registration for online training and classroom session is through the Office of State Human Resources Learning Center. Here is a quick reference guide to help you get started.
STEP TWO: Complete the six online modules.
- History and Law
- Americans with Disabilities Act
- Legally Defensible Hiring
- Unlawful Workplace Harassment
- EEO and You
- Diversity and Inclusion
STEP THREE: Complete and pass the final assessment with a grade of 70% or higher.
STEP FOUR: Enroll in the instructor-led training, an interactive and collaborative experience where you will connect and apply concepts learned in the online modules to real-life situations.
