New Accommodations for Pregnant Workers

A federal law took effect in June setting out new accommodation requirements for pregnant workers. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (also known as the PWFA) requires employers (such as Appalachian State University) to provide “reasonable accommodations” for workers with known limitations related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Examples of PWFA accommodations include parking assistance, additional break time, appropriately sized uniforms, being excused from strenuous activities, and more.

To request accommodations related to pregnancy, please visit the Office of Access & Equity website.
