State Budget Message from UNC System President Peter Hans

We are pleased to share this message from UNC System President Peter Hans.
Final guidance related to the legislative salary increase from the Office of State Human Resources (OSHR) and the Office of State Budget (OSBM) is still in development. We will share this information when it is available.

New state budget marks historic investment for higher education

The budget that passed the General Assembly last week was a huge win for North Carolina’s public universities, extending the long-running and bipartisan support for our people and our mission. From children’s health care to faculty and staff salaries to campus repairs and renovations, this budget strengthens our work and expands our service to the state.

Lawmakers agreed with our key priorities, providing seven percent raises for faculty and staff, extensive investments to renovate and repair our campuses, and major investments in health care. This budget will be transformative for ECU Health and UNC Health, allowing for greater service in rural areas, much more capacity for mental health care, and a brand new, expansive children’s hospital in Chapel Hill. Our citizens and their elected leaders have shown great confidence in the UNC System to help tackle some of our state’s biggest challenges and best opportunities, and we’re excited for the work ahead.
