Reporting Use of Personal Observance and COVID-19 Booster Incentive Leaves

In a weekly Campus Update earlier this month, Chancellor Everts reported that, pursuant to Governor’s Executive Order 262 and authorization from President Hans, leave-earning university employees are awarded eight hours of paid “Personal Observance Leave” annually, on a calendar-year basis, effective immediately. The leave can be used for any single day of personal significance, including days of cultural or religious importance.

In addition, pursuant to Governor’s Executive Order #257, President Hans has authorized the universities to provide a one-time award of eight hours of “COVID-19 Booster Shot Incentive Leave” to leave-earning employees who have already provided proof of having received at least one COVID-19 booster shot and those who provide proof prior to August 31, 2022.

To implement these welcome special leave programs, new leave codes and the respective leave balances have been added to eligible employees’ time sheets and leave reports.  Both of these leaves may be applied to qualifying absences following requirements in the respective State policies.  Personal Observance Leave can be reported using leave code “POL” and COVID Booster Leave can be reported using leave code “CBL.”

Summaries of the requirements for each of these leave programs have been posted to the Office of Human Resources website at:
