Effective October 1, 2026, the North Carolina State Human Resources Act previously codified in Chapter 126 of the North Carolina General Statutes has been repealed and replaced by Chapter 126A, the Public Workforce Modernization Act.
The University is currently reviewing and updating its policies, procedures, forms, guidance documents, websites, training materials, and other references to reflect thetransition from Chapter 126 to Chapter 126A. During this transition period, references in University materials to "Chapter 126," the "State Human Resources Act," or specific provisions of former Chapter 126 should generally be understood as referring to the corresponding provisions of Chapter 126A, as applicable.
To the extent any inconsistency exists between University materials and applicable law, Chapter 126A and other governing legal authorities shall control.
The University will continue to update materials as revisions are completed.
