Health & Wellness
Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff (HPFS)
The Health Promotion for Faculty and Staff (HPFS) program provides App State faculty, staff, retirees, and their spouses/domestic partners with programs and services that promote healthy lifestyles and overall well-being. Major components include health and fitness programming, preventive care initiatives, and wellness outreach services.
HPFS fitness facilities are available in Boone and Hickory to faculty, staff, retirees, and spouses/domestic partners at no charge. A Health History Form must be completed prior to facility use.
HPFS also offers the Employee Health Clinic, an interprofessional clinic program located in Leon Levine that connects new employees and employees in need of establishing primary care services with transitional preventive care, wellness resources, health screenings, and primary care support.
Counseling for Faculty and Staff
Confidential counseling services are available to assist employees and their immediate family members with personal concerns that may affect work performance or overall well-being. Services are provided at no cost.
University Recreation (UREC)
University Recreation (UREC) offers a variety of recreational and fitness opportunities for employees and eligible household members. Programs offerings include aquatics, fitness, outdoor recreation, and sports programs. Visit UREC for more information regarding membership and eligibility.
Childcare and Parenting
App State Child Development Center
The App State Child Development Center provides quality childcare for the children of App State students, faculty, and staff. Activities include individual and group play, learning center instruction, outdoor activities, rest periods, and nutritious snacks.
Parent fees are based on a sliding scale according to annual family income.
Communications Disorders Clinic
The Communications Disorders Clinic provides hands-on clinical learning experiences for students while offering professional speech, language, reading, and related services to individuals throughout the region. Services are available to children with language and reading disabilities regardless of their family's ability to pay.
Community Music School
The Community Music School offers private lessons, group programs, and ensembles for participants ages 4 through adult. Tuition assistance is available for eligible families. Programs are offered during the fall and spring semesters at the Broyhill Music Center and the HUB Station in Hudson, NC.
Lucy Brock Child Development Laboratory Program
The Lucy Brock Child Development Laboratory Program models best practices in early childhood education while providing quality learning experiences for both university students and local children. The program supports hands-on learning opportunities for students across multiple disciplines and helps prepare young children for success in school.
Parent to Parent Family Support Network
The Parent to Parent Family Support Network provides information, resources, and support for families who have premature infants, children with disabilities, children with chronic illnesses, and/or have experienced the loss of a child.
Youth Programs and Camps
App State offers a variety of youth programs throughout the year, including academic, recreational, and specialty programs.
Featured Program: Cannon Music Camp is a comprehensive summer music camp for high school students featuring ensemble performances, music theory instruction, weekly private lessons, campus residential experiences, and a variety of recreational activities. The camp is open to vocalists and instrumentalists and provides students with a preview of the college music experience.

ComPsych Employee Assistance Program
ComPsych serves as App State's Employee Assistance Program, offering employees access to professional resources and mental health support services. Registration is required before use.

State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC)
The State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) is the official workplace giving program authorized for payroll deduction among most state employees. The program provides employees with the opportunity to support a wide range of charitable organizations through workplace contributions.

The Office of Relocation and Dual Career Assistance supports employees and their partners by providing resources related to housing, moving and relocation, and employment opportunities for partners and spouses.

Professional Development and Tuition Waivers
A variety of professional development resources are available to help faculty and staff develop and enhance their professional and personal knowledge, skills, and abilities, including tuition waivers for courses taken at UNC System schools and access to tools such as LinkedIn Learning and Academic Impressions.
Library Privileges
Belk Library & Information Commons provides faculty and staff access to one of the region's premier academic library collections. Employees may check out library materials using their AppCard ID, explore the Makerspace, and borrow digital equipment from the Technology Checkout Desk.
University Writing Center
The University Writing Center, located in Belk Library, offers free writing support to App State students, faculty, and staff. Writers can receive feedback and guidance on a wide range of projects, including academic, professional, personal, and creative writing. Consultants can assist at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming and organization to revision and final edits.
