Staff Application Process

Welcome and thank you for your interest in Career Opportunities at Appalachian State University. The desire and goal of the Office of Human Resources-Employment is to attract, hire, develop, and retain great people who can contribute to the excellence of Appalachian State University.

The following provides information on the application process for staff positions.

Applications

All staff positions require completion of an electronic Staff Application through our online employment system at www.jobs.appstate.edu. Please provide COMPLETE and ACCURATE contact information and educational and work history in the appropriate spaces. Incomplete applications may not receive full consideration. Your application will remain on file in the online system indefinitely and can be updated at any time. If you wish to apply for vacancies, simply log into the employment system, update your application information if necessary, and apply to postings.

Username/Password

Please safeguard your username and password used to set up your application but maintain easy access as this information is required each time you log into the online system. If you lose your password you may contact HR at 828-262-3187.

Postings

Staff positions are posted for a minimum of five (5) business days. All postings will indicate a closing date and no applications may be received after this date. The application can not be modified once it has been applied to a specific posting.

Attaching Additional Documents

Not all postings will allow an applicant to attach additional documents such as a resume and cover letter. At all times, ensure your application provides complete and accurate information. If the posting allows you to attach additional documents, please note that some documents may be listed as required uploads whearas others are listed as optional document. Optional documents are not a requirment.

After Posting Deadline

Applications are screened after the posted closing date and applicants meeting the minimum qualifications and required competencies indicated on the posting will be referred to the hiring department for consideration within 2 days after the posted closing date. From this referred qualified applicant pool, the hiring department determines the most qualified applicants and will select interviewees. The hiring department is required to interview a minimum of three (3) applicants for appropriate comparison purposes. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the department to schedule an interview. The Office of Human Resources advises our hiring departments to take action as soon as possible so as to maintain a viable applicant pool; but we do not require a set timetable for the completion of the interview/selection process.

Please Note: Hiring decisions are typically made within two (2) to eight (8) weeks following the posted closing date.

Applicants are able to check the status of their application through the online system which will either indicate “In Progress” or “Position Filled”.
