Introduction

Ridge Academy is the second level of the Summit Series leadership development program, designed for established leaders who have been in their management role for at least one year. Completion of this program will require participants to commit to a five-month cohort that will include the completion of self-study tasks, in-person led seminars, nationally recognized communication programs, & reflection-based activities. 

Ideal participants will have experience with conflict resolution, budget management, hiring practices, and foundational leadership competencies.

Purpose of this program

The purpose of this program is to drive professional and personal development for leaders looking to take the next step in their leadership journey. With a focus on enhancing communication, effective coaching techniques, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and ethical decision-making, Ridge will equip leaders with the necessary skills to be successful in their role. 

Learning Objectives

After completing this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate various leadership styles and determine how to leverage strengths and acknowledge challenges in personal leadership styles. 
  2. Analyze ethical decision-making strategies to support innovative hiring and budget management decisions aligned with Appalachian State’s values. 
  3. Demonstrate research-based communication skills that will create a culture of safety, collaboration, and success between leader and employee. 
  4. Build relationships across the university to help support a culture of collaboration and networking across multiple functions. 

Monthly Topics

Month 1: Leading Self - Learn about your leadership style, leading with EQ, & how to work with different generations.

Month 2: Leading Others - Learn how to develop yourself and your workforce by leveraging University resources to support employees once they are here.

Month 3: Leading Others - Learn how to enhancing communication to build trust, align teams, foster collaboration and setting the precedent for productive dialogue.

Month 4: Leading the Organization - Learn to make ethical, strategic decisions through thoughtful analysis, while fostering a positive work environment.

Month 5: Leading the Organization - Learn the art of integration to effectively navigate and facilitate change.
